The Comptroller General's Department was founded on October 7th, 1890 by proclamation of Official Register Act at King Chulalongkorn's order. Its main responsibilities include supervising and controlling the spending of the country and government unit ensuring that they observ monetary discipline, are value for money, transparent and auditable, with a central framework for all government units to adopt for their working operation.
